In preparation for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is sponsoring an anti-DUI campaign that will be seen on dozens of electronic message boards across California.
The “Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving” campaign was established back in 2005 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and is now a regular feature on the 790 electronic billboards that Caltrans operates across California. According to the Ad Council, which launched the campaign for the NHTSA, the campaign has already made a very significant impact on the way people view their transportation options, after drinking.
In 2013, according to the Ad Council, more than half of all respondents said that they look for other transportation options to get home after drinking. They would either get a ride from someone, or use public transportation rather than get behind the wheel. According to the Ad Council, that marked an improvement of 7% from the statistics in 2005 when the campaign was just launched.
According Caltrans, the agency is also experimenting with a number of other messages that would encourage drivers to avoid getting behind the wheel when they are feeling buzzed.
This Memorial holiday weekend, you are at a much higher risk of being pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving. Avoid driving even if you had just a few alcoholic beverages and are feeling pleasantly buzzed. You might not realize it, but your blood alcohol level could be at or above the .08% legally permissible level.
If you are arrested for driving under the alcohol, speaking to a Los Angeles DUI lawyer to ascertain your legal options for defense.
