Being arrested for DWI can be a frightening experience. However, when you are arrested, there is much that you can do that can actually worsen your situation. The mayor of a small New York town recently showed how this is done.
Police officers in Monticello in New York recently arrested the town’s mayor on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. The mayor’s behavior after the arrest was captured on video, and it doesn't present a pretty picture. The arrest occurred on November 16. Police officers arrested Mayor Gordon Jenkins, but the Mayor quickly took offence to this outrage. He suggested that his arrest was racially motivated. Jenkins happens to be African-American.The footage clearly shows the Mayor ripping a clock off the wall, and throwing it outside the interrogation room.
The arrest took place at the scene of an auto accident, in which Jenkins was not involved. A firefighter at the scene of an accident noted that Jenkins who also happened to be at the scene seemed to be under the influence of alcohol. He called the police, and when police arrived at the scene, they asked Jenkins to take a blood alcohol. He refused to do so, and was charged with criminal mischief and obstruction of justice.
The Mayor's supporters say that his DUI arrest was the result of a long-standing dispute between the Mayor and the police department. They allege that people, who form his based in the town, often suffer DUI-related indignities at the hands of the police, that are similar to the kind of indignities that the Mayor suffered.
